Prickly pear cacti, opuntia, have a very recognizable look. Those flat, rounded pads are hard to confuse with anything else. They look a little like green ears, a little like paddles. Or maybe like one very famous mouse known all around the world.
The inspiration for this cactus coloring page was a small indoor variety of prickly pear. The kind that lives in a pot, on a windowsill. But looking at the drawing, it could just as well be any other prickly pear cactus. Even one of the larger kinds growing in warmer places, whose fruits and young pads are used as food. I will not pretend to be an expert in cactus cuisine, though. I will stick to coloring pages, because that is where I feel much more confident.
