This printable decorative primary writing paper was created with young writers in mind – especially those in grades K–2 who are just starting to form letters, words, and simple stories. The paper features 1/2-inch lines with a dotted midline (1.27 cm), which help children learn proper letter formation and spacing in a natural, age-appropriate way.
But this isn’t just any primary writing paper. I added a touch of whimsy: crystals hanging from above and lucky horseshoes at the bottom, giving the page a fun, fairy-tale feel without distracting from the main task – writing.
Writing and Storytelling Practice with a Creative Twist
This printable was originally designed as a companion page to a unicorn coloring page. A small fragment of Draw and Write Journal.
The idea is simple. First, kids complete the coloring page – they color the unicorn, add their own elements, and bring the scene to life. Then, they turn to this lined paper to write about what they created:
- a description of their drawing,
- a simple story,
- or even a few sentences about what the unicorn might do next.
But the sheet works just as well on its own. It can be paired with any drawing activity or used by itself as a beautiful page for practicing handwriting, sentence building, or early journaling.
