Imagine that my sketchbook has been filling up for years with tiny, whimsical butterflies and flowers sporting the most unusual petals. They’ve hardly ever made it beyond my binder, but that’s about to change! I finally drew the card I’d been missing: “Thank You Mom,” a hand‑lettered design where lush flowers grow right out of the letters and small butterflies flutter between the stems.
Funny thing, this is the first Mother’s Day card I’ve ever posted. For years I focused on helping kids make cards for Dad, Grandma, or Grandpa (and I really enjoyed it). A “for‑me‑Mom” card never happened – it’s hard to help your own kids make a present for… you. So I decided to fill that gap and create a design anyone can color for their mom.
-
What makes it special?
- Lots of detail – the petals and leaves are small and delicate. And there are lots of them.
- Text and ornament in one – stems weave through the letters, so you can play with contrast: bold words versus subtle background, or the other way around.
- Relaxing rhythm – the repeating flower shapes feel like a quick meditation (though finishing the whole page will take longer than fifteen minutes).
Who is this coloring page for?
For Mom, of course!
Preschoolers might get lost in the tiny lines, but older kids, teens, and adults will love bringing every leaf to life. I’m planning to slip this one into my own mom’s gift, because — surprise — I’m someone’s daughter too!
A few practical tips
Print on slightly thicker paper (about 160 g/m²). I use white cardstock (around 65 lb cover, about 160 gsm). Markers won’t bleed through, and colored pencils work better than on copier paper.
Try two palettes: soft pastels for a gentle look, or bright, vibrant colors if your mom loves energy.
Short on time? Focus on the letters first — coloring just the words already gives the card character. This is exactly what I started with, as you will soon see in the photos.
The coloring page is free for personal use — download, print, and gift it (just don’t sell it). Drop a comment how your version turned out. I love seeing your takes on butterfly wings and rainbow petals.
I hope this illustration gives you a moment of creative downtime and puts a big smile on your mom’s face. If you enjoy this level of detail, let me know — I still have a few “advanced” sketches waiting for color!
