Night of the Living Dummy Book Report

Night OF The Living Dummy mainly took place in the girl’s (Kris and Lindy Powell) house, their school and a construction site. The story happened in spring because it was hot and humid and the girl’s were still in school. The story took place mainly at night time when the dummy came to life.

Kris and Lindy Powell are young twin girls around the age of twelve with straight blond hair and blue eyes with dimples in their cheeks. Kris’s hair is cut very short and she is jealous of her sister. Lindy has a long pony tail and is funny and is always joking around but has a mean streak towards her sister.
Mr. Wood is a wooden dummy; he has red hair and is extremely evil.
Slappy is also a wooden dummy that has green eyes and black hair and always wears a black suit with a red bow-tie.

The story begins with Lindy Powell finding a ventriloquist’s wooden dummy in a dumpster of an old house that is being renovated next door to her home.

Lindy and Kris who are sisters are fighting and Lindy goes outside and ends up finding a dummy in a dumpster. Kris gets extremely jealous of Lindy’s dummy and decides to get one of her own. Kris’s dummy comes to life using voodoo magic and Kris and Lindy try to stop the evil dummy from ruling over them. Mr. Wood, the mean dummy ends up getting ran over by a steam roller in the end.

The Mystery on Roanoke Island

The Mystery on Roanoke Island
A Short Story by: L Tate

I am reporting live at the scene of where the Croatians and the settlers disappeared on Roanoke Island. Roanoke is in the outer banks of North Carolina. In 1584 Sir Walter Raleigh paid two English navigators (Philip Armada, and Arthur Barlowe) they found an island with which seemed to be fertile soil. When they went back the two navigators brought two Indians with them. They gave the land to queen Elizabeth. They named it Virginia because Queen Elizabeth is the virgin queen. The next year about 100 men set sail with Raleigh’s cousin Sir Richard Grenville.

The Indians on Roanoke greeted the men. They found a spot that they had chosen then started to build some houses and other buildings using bricks. Grenville returned to England to get some supplies. Ralph Lane was appointed governor and in charge.

The settlers where too late to plant crops and the English men had to depend on the Indians for food to survive on. The settlers kidnapped the Indians for information. Because the settlers kidnapped them they destroyed their fish traps. By the beginning of June the settlers were in a war with the American Indians. A few Indians died.

Grenville’s way back to the colony took longer than expected the settlers were hopeless. Sir Francis Drake had 23 ships. Drake offered a ship to Lane. Lane took the offer and planed to sail to England in about a month. After awhile the ship got blown out to sea in a horrible storm. After it blew away Lane decided to sail back with Drake immediately. In June all the colonists sailed to England. Grenville arrived back with three loaded ships. He searched for the men he left behind to claim the land for England. He found one slaughtered and another one murdered possibly by the Roanokes the English men formed a raiding party and attacked. After the attack the men found that the Roanokes fled and accidentally attacked the Croatians. It’s unknown whether they forgave them or not? In the 1590’s White sailed back. He found large trees that looked like a fort he saw the word CRO and thought they sailed to the Croatians islands. White didn’t get to go to the Croatians Island because a storm hit and he was forced to sail to England. In 1709 John Lawson spent time exploring where the Croatians once where. He claimed to see white Indians. And some people found there was a severe drought in that time. They think it was probably the worst drought in 800 years!!!

What is a Website

I recently had a science fair in my school. We had to choose a topic on anything related to science and get it approved or right an long report or essay on a topic. Since I couldn't find something interesting on 'fish', I decided to do something that I could learn from.

Creating a website and defining what a website is, is what I chose to do my science project about. Here is my hypothesis and beginning summary of the topic. You can find my final project here at What is a Website dot com. I used the free website creator tools at Creating a website can get complicated, I needed some help, but the free tools are easy.

Hypothesis-I predict that you need three primary things to start a website. Domain name, webhost and a topic. You know you want to create a website, but first you need to consider what the website will be about. Knowing what the website is about will help determine your domain name. Most domain names are 1 to 3 words that describe what the website is about. The domain name is the URL of the website, such as What is a Website is the website I have created for this project. A webhost is the computer that has the ability to display the website on the World Wide Web so that everyone can see it worldwide. The webhost is a computer, just like you have at home, except that all it does is display websites on the World Wide Web.

DARE Essay

In the past few weeks I have enjoyed having our local police officer come in and teach us about drug abuse, bullying and other stuff that may help me learn about the important things that will come up sooner or later. My favorite part of DARE would probably be the part where we talked about bullying and how it’s best not to be a bystander and watch the bullying happen instead it is better to tell an adult.

The three most important things I learned in DARE is how drugs affect your body, like smoking can give you lung cancer, it’s gross and makes your teeth yellow. Spreading rumors or hurting someone physically is another form of bullying. The place where bullying most often occurs is at lunch or in the locker rooms. My third most important thing I learned in DARE is pressure. There are different kinds of pressure, peer pressure, heavy pressure, ext. Pressure can lead to different things like someone telling or asking you to do something you don’t want to do. It is important for me to take a stand when I see bullying happening in my school because you don’t want to see anybody get hurt or anything turn into a serious issue. You should never bully someone else because it just leads to something bad happening to you and the person who is being bullied. This is what I learned in drug abuse resistance education (DARE).
